SiTI Higher Institute on Territorial Systems for Innovation – Istituto Superiore sui Sistemi Territoriali per l’Innovazione – based in Turin. SiTI is a non-profit association jointly set up in 2002 by the Politecnico di Torino and the Compagnia di San Paolo. The Institute carries out research and training oriented towards innovation and socio-economic growth, thus promoting innovative and participatory approaches to effectively address territorial needs. Research activities are mainly focused on: enhancement of environmental and cultural heritage, territorial development and competitiveness, urban regeneration, logistics and transport, security.
Through the several projects implemented by the research group dealing with Territorial Development, SiTI has acquired in-depth knowledge on tourism development and destination management. Specifically the Research Unit has developed extensive experience in analysis and evaluation of tourism systems, taking into account: i) thematic and interactive territorial analysis ii) tourism typologies (cultural, social, nature, wellness, religious, school, sports, congress, virtual) and related aspects (accessibility, hospitality, information); iii)sustainable tourism; iv) promotion of natural and cultural heritage; v) monitoring of tourism flows (outdoor and indoor) to track and analyze visitor’s behavior; vi) destination marketing; vii) development and destination management. SiTI has technically supported the process of the application of the ETIS (European Tourism Indicator System) in the “ATL del Cuneese”.
SiTI facilities are located within the campus of the Politecnico of Turin – Italy. At present time SiTI permanent staff is composed of 23 units, about 15 fixed term collaborators and roughly 20 research grants awarded in 2013. SITI is part of the NECSTOUR network as academic member.
